According to the Jackson County, Mississippi census, Alexander was born about 1779 in North Carolina. His wife Mary was born supposedly in South Carolina. Their eldest son, James Madison was born in 1809 in Kentucky and their oldest daughter, Caroline Matilda, was born in 1811 in "Florida". We assume this to specify West Florida, as in 1811 this area was a part of Spanish West Florida. Alexander and his children bounce across the Mississippi/Alabama line throughout their lifes.
