About us

Our Aldridge Group Project currently has 66 members participating in various levels of DNA testing with FTDNA. Through these tests we have found two prominent and very separate Aldridge lineages:

* Multiple lines documented to descend from the Aldridges in Randolph County, North Carolina, match each other, and match a separate descendant of Nicholas Aldridge of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, indicating that this lineage, of haplogroup R1b-U106, is the line from Nicholas Aldridge.
* Another Aldridge lineage, completely separate, of haplogroup I-M223, does not match the Nicholas Aldridge, despite many descendants claiming this ancestry. At least three different families match. Their common ancestor is unclear.
According to geneticists, the I haplogroups and the R haplogroups have not shared a common ancestor in about 50,000 years.

Our goals are:
Through Y-DNA, to trace and document all paternal lineages with names Aldridge, Alldridge, Alldredge, and other variants, in the United States, Great Britain, and worldwide.
To help Aldridge descendants identify and connect to their ancestors, and connect as many related families together as possible.
To aid researchers in breaking through genealogical brick walls through the use of DNA research.
