The Allred Family Organization (AFO) was founded in 1987 at an Allred Reunion when attendees realized they really didn't know much about their family history.  As a result, research goals were established, volunteers got to work and the first Allred Family Newsletter was published in October 1989.  Word spread about this new organization and as more Allred descendants joined, more Allred information was gathered and contributed.  The result is a documented family tree tracing back to the late 1500's Lancashire, England. 

However, some connections and branches of the tree have been hard to establish.  Over time proper documentation has been lost or destroyed and, as we all know, those family stories do not always turn out to be true.  Thus the DNA Project was started and DNA results started pouring in; some as expected, some were surprises and some opened up new mysteries to be solved.   

Bottom line:  if you are having trouble finding the necessary documentation to prove your Allred heritage, your DNA results will tell you if you are "barking up the right tree" or not.  If your DNA matches Allred, at least you know you are on the right track.  If your DNA does not match Allred, you will know there was an adoption, illegitimate child or other mystery in your family tree and your research can focus on solving that question.
