About us

As of March 2019, we have identified three distinct genetic origins for Strickler families and the similar surname Stickle.

The more specific Group 1 haplogroup designation of R-U152 (R1b1a2a1a1b3) has been associated with the Alpine Celts, with an estimated origin of approximately 3,500 years ago.

Ideally, we hope eventually to have participants from as many Strickler ancestors as possible, preferably direct paternal descendants from two (and ideally from three) different sons of the most distant known ancestor of each line where available, which would allow us to establish a baseline DNA signature for the distant ancestor. We also hope that additional direct paternal descendants from ancestors already represented will participate and help to determine in which ancestors particular DNA changes arose that characterize their descendants. For instance, somewhere in the lines of descent from the most recent common ancestor of Group 1, changes have occurred in the results for DYS markers 447 and 438. Both of these markers tend to be relatively stable and potentially could be useful for characterizing lines of descent from particular male Strickler ancestors. Further testing of additional participants could enable us to determine which value was the original baseline value and which value is a mutation (change) that arose in a later descendant. With enough participation it is possible that we could even pinpoint which ancestor passed along the mutation, making it highly likely that any Strickler male carrying that result descends from that particular Strickler ancestor.

Is your Strickler family represented, yet?
