Beara to Butte | 117 | The Beara to Butte DNA project at FamilyTreeDNA.com is free to join and open to anyone who has done any kind of DNA test (autosomal, YDNA, XDNA, MtDNA) from Ancestry, 23andMe, MyHeritage, or FamilyTreeDNA with ancestors from the Beara peninsula of Ireland or Butte Montana in the United States of America.
The Beara peninsula is located in the far Southwest corner of the Republic of Ireland at the border of Counties Kerry and Cork. There were several mining operations around Beara in the early 1800’s. When many of the mines began to close because they ran out of ore, along with the Great Famine in the 1840’s, many of the miners of the Beara peninsula emigrated to Butte Montana in the United States for prospective mining work.
The goals of this project are to connect people with Butte Montana ancestors to their Beara peninsula ancestors and to help connect Beara descendants ancestors together with DNA to break most peoples 1800’s genealogy brick wall.

Montagne | 65 | The purpose of the MONTAGNE surname project is to study the DNA of the descendants of Dr. Johannes (Jean) Mousnier de la Montagne. We hope to identify the distinctive genetic patterns for each branch of the MONTAGNE family. We are excited about the possibilities of learning more about our deeper genetic past. Finally, we hope to make more discoveries about both the ancestors and the descendants of Dr. Jean Mousnier de la Montagne (1595-1670), Huguenot physician of New Amsterdam and Vice Director of the Colony of New Netherland (today known as New York). |
