Cambria Co., Pennsylvania Y-DNA & MtDNA | 2015 | Welcome!

If you've been researching family lines within Cambria County, Pennsylvania, then you know how rich and diverse the genealogical mix is in this single county. This group is for anyone, and everyone, with DNA connections to Cambria County.

This group is accepting both Y-DNA & Family Finder results from any contributor who wishes to join our group. We are no longer supporting mtDNA only kits. My own primary Cambria lines, on my mother's side, are Weakland (Paternal) and Riley/Reilly (Maternal). Cambria County was formed in 1807, from parts of Huntingdon and Bedford Counties. Pre-1807 families from Huntingdon and Bedford are always welcome too. Families from surrounding counties are always welcome as well, please indicate when joining if you're from a neighboring county. |

Cress | 76 | Welcome to the Cress DNA Project. Our purpose is to provide that next step, when the paper trail ends, in that search for your elusive ancestor. DNA testing provides an alternative to wasting time and money (less cost than a research trip) in finding clues to your lineage and overcoming that brick wall. If you wonder whether you might share a common ancestor with another Cress (or similar surname such as Kress, Grass, etc) DNA testing can provide answers. |

JOINING the PROJECT
1. Requests to join need to be made after signing in on the FTDNA website, and include a brief outline of some family history in East Anglia.
2. Most Distant Known Ancestor information under Set Up Preferences on your individual FTDNA results page needs to be completed with name, baptism or birth and location in East Anglia. (e.g. George Thurlow, b1725 Brockford SFK).
3. FTDNA has made the default setting for access of new member samples, by the project administrators, and is a 'read only for administrators',

Germany-YDNA | 10949 | Welcome to the Germany-YDNA = German Language Area DNA Research Project!
The German-speaking area of Europe has always been a crossroad of various ethnic and cultural groups throughout history. This project would like to collect and analyze all of the different genetic contributions of all people whose native language was at some point in the past, or is in the present, German.
Thus, everyone who knows, or his/her ancestor in the past, considers German to be his/her Native Language is cordially invited to join this project.
Please do provide us below with details about your earliest known patrilinear (= direct male line of descent) ancestor, and, if available, please email the administrator a pedigree chart or documentation/description of your German ancestry after having joined the project.
If known, please provide us below with the name, the date, & location of your earliest known patrilinear European ancestor.
If you have already been tested, please click on the 'Join Projects' link on your personal page at FTDNA.

Grass Surname Project | 12 | This project was originally set up to research the roots of my paternal line ancestor, Henry Grass. He was born in 1764 in the village of Brandon in Suffolk, England. His mother is recorded in his baptism record as a widow, and he is recorded as "Base Born". This project hopes to eventually identify Henry's father through yDNA testing. An intermediate aim of this project will be to confirm a haplotype for Henry Grass, based on testing his male-line descendants.
I note that there are a number of other DNA testers that have the surname Grass, or similar names. The surname Grass (or similar) has, I believe, many different roots and I am happy for those members to join this project and hope I can assist you. We already have added the European surnames Gras (France) and Grasso and Grassi (Italy)
If you are interested in the research of this name then I have set up an Facebook group to facilitate discussion (https://www.facebook.com/groups/642778826168213/)
January 2021
Last Year I published some research on the early Grass families in Brandon, Suffolk, England. Based on the availlable Parish registers there are 6 Grass family groups. These groups are possibly/probably related, although there is currently no evidence to support this. The six groups are:
1. Henry Grass (b.1764 Brandon, Suffolk, d.1845) & Dinah Aylmer
2. Matthew Grass & Mary Green (m. 14th Feb 1779)
2.1 John Grass & Elizabeth Hubbard (m. 24th Sept. 1801)
3. Matthew Grass (c.1792-1864) & Susan/Susannah Enifer (1793-1882)
4. Henry Grass & Sarah Lloyd or Loyd
5. James Grass & Emma Edwards
6. John or possibly William Grass
The complete research is published at: https://learnalittleeveryday.wordpress.com/2020/11/24/on-the-origins-of-the-grass-family-surname-in-the-brandon-area-of-suffolk/ |

Krise | 44 | The Krise Surname DNA Project has been established to create a databank of Y-DNA profiles of families with variations on the surname Krise. The primary purpose is to provide a basis for documenting and distinguishing different family lines which share a common surname. The Krise surname derives from different European family names, representing different ethnic groups, as well. Surnames known to be related to the American surname Krise include Greiß, Greiss, Grass, Grice, Grise, Kraiss, Kreis, Kries, Kriss, Kress, and Crise. Some longer surnames are also known to have been shortened to Krise.
This project can assist family historians in confirming or refuting possible lines of descent, but its success depends on accumulating a sufficiently large databank. |
