Preliminary results of mtDNA distribution shows that the following haplogroups appear among the Turks of Bulgaria:

Autosomal

Based on results from 23andMe Ancestry Composition Tool, the general autosomal characteristic relating to Turks from Bulgaria is their higher proportion of Middle Eastern genetic makeup, which ranges between 5 - 15% (in some cases >20%) and the Asian segment with 2% or more. Results confirm that Turks from Bulgaria have a clear autosomal marker which is the combination of Middle Eastern and Asian component in particular the North East Asian. This is also consistent with results from Geno 2.0 Regional Ancestry and Family Finder's MyOrigins. 

In 23andMe the European genetic makeup remains consistent between 80 - 90% and in Family Finder between 50 - 80%. In other Balkan populations the simultaneous presence of Middle Eastern and Asian genetic makeup is on much lower levels or nonexistent. This supports evidence of centuries-old East - West migration of a Turkish core towards the Balkans responsible for the linguistic and cultural spillover.


In order to draw further conclusions additional samples are needed.
