Project Background
In the autumn of 2003 the Terriot Acadian Family began searching for males with the surname (or any variant) to submit DNA for testing. All six of the first participants had genealogical trees "on paper" connecting them to Jehan Terriau, who appeared on the 1671 census of Acadia at age 70. The DNA results all matched, except for two minor mutations in one Louisiana line. The seventh submitter was an adoptee with a different surname, but who also matched.
There are now 15 individuals, and all but one have significant matches, and can also trace their paternal lineage back to Jehan Terriau of Acadia. The small mutations make possible the differentiation of various lines.
