About us

Most Scroggie families have been traced to the Aberdeen area of Scotland. Unfortunately, the records become scarce prior to 1700, and it is difficult, if not impossible to link branches through records alone. At least eight Scroggie branches have been identified and documented, as shown below (listed usually by the name of the oldest known member). As of yet, no documented links have been found between these branches, although several come from the same geographic area, including Aberdeen and Banchory Ternan (BT).

Robert, b. 1744, married Isabel Kelman. They had six children, including Adam, b. in 1787 in Ellon, Aberdeen. Adam married Anne Walker and they had eight children, including James, b. 1822 in Pettymuick, Aberdeen. James married Margaret Robertson and they had seven children, including Adam, b. 1862 in Udny, Aberdeen. The Scroggie Surname Project has been established with the objective of using DNA to determine if the various Scroggie branches are related. The project uses the 12 marker Y chromosome (male) DNA test, at a minimum, to determine relationship. The user can also select the more specific 25 or 37 marker test. This project allows for discounts of over 35% on each of the DNA test kits if ordered from the Scroggie Surname Project page.
