Project Surnames:
Project Background: All Mitchells (and variations) are invited to join! The Mitchell surname project began as an attempt to prove or disprove my theory about my Mitchell family. Since my origins were Southern (Virginia>N.C.>Tennessee) I sought other Mitchells from this area, hoping to find a match.
For much more information, please see our other website at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/mitchell/home |
Project Goals: Since there were many Mitchell families in the target area, with no direct evidence to link many of them, the initial goal was simply to determine who was related to whom and thus narrow our search area.
*Most Wanted New Participants* for this month!
1) Male Mitchell descendents of James Stewart Mitchell md. Sarah Scott; lived in Kentucky and Tennessee before moving to White Co. Arkansas. Two known sons: John Scott Mitchell (1824-1894) and Lewis Bryon Mitchell (1828-1906)
2) Male Mitchell descendents of Ignatius Mitchell b. MD; moved to Mason Co. Kentucky; founder of Charlestown.
3) Male Mitchell descendents of David and Sarah Mitchell of Whitfield Co. GA. Their sons include: James,
Thomas C., David Washington, John F., William F., Wiley P., Zachariah,
and Monroe Mitchell. |
Project News: | We are testing any and all Mitchells. *Group 9 just got a new match who traces back to 1590 in England! An exciting new possibility for their origins!* A invitation-only web site on yahoo has been initiated in which participants can share their ancestral information with all in the project and communicate with one another. This site also contains research in Virginia, North & South Carolina and Tennessee records, and is open to all serious Mitchell researchers. Inquire with the administrator or email Sherrie Boone at sboone12@cox.net for membership. |
Project Results: For more detailed look at the results, see http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/mitchell/disc
The next step for all these matches is to update your earliest known ancestor (in your FTDNA account) and begin corresponding with your matches to compare notes, analyze research, and prepare a strategy to move forward. Your goal is to try to find who your common ancestor is through genealogical research. With everyone working together, this is very possible! Also, consider joining the yahoo group - where there is a forum for discussion and collaboration. |
DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members * Haplogroups in green have been
confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
