About us

The purpose of this project is to use Y-DNA analysis to distinguish among the various Winchester groups that arrived in specific locations during Colonial America, and then to link them back to their likely source in the United Kingdom. Winchesters are recorded in the American Colonies over a 120 year span beginning in New England in the early 1630s ; in Kent Island VA by mid 1600s ; in North Carolina Haw River and Mecklenburg, NC by mid 1700s; in Ninety Six District of SC upcountry by mid 700's; and in the early 1800’s settlements of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada.
