We are using DNA testing as part of our efforts to illuminate the origins & early history of our surname. We will explore the oldest clan lore in hopes of discovering whether those of Scottish origin & those of Irish origin are really ancient "cousins. We are searching for relationships among current residents of the UK, as well as those who are now descendants of colonial immigrants to the USA, Canada, Australia & other former British colonies. Y-STR and Y haplogroup results for all participants with surname MacTaggart/Taggart (and spelling variants) are of haplogroup I or haplogroup R, typical for the British Isles. Testing 67 or 111 markers is desirable as it provides a more accurate means of comparing results between two or more men who are a "near match", but any test is better than none & all prospective participants are welcome.
