1. Determine if the North Carolina Swaim families are related to one another.
2. Determine if the Swaim men who trace their ancestries to the various North Carolina Swaim families are related to current day Van Pelt men tracing their ancestry to Teunis Jansen Lanen Van Pelt (or the brother, Mathys Van Pelt) or to Swaim men tracing their ancestry back to Thys Barentsen, through the sons that did NOT go to North Carolina.
3. Determine if those with the variant spellings of the surname (Swim, Swims, Swem, Sweem, Sweim) are all related each other and to the North Carolina Swaim descendants.
4. See if it is possible to determine, by DNA testing of descendants, whether John Swaim of Randolph County, NC or John Swaim of Wilkes County, NC was the son of John Swaim and Charity Teague.
5. Help other Swaim men, who do not know their Swaim ancestry, to be able to determine if they are related to the North Carolina Swaim descendants.
6. Help Van Pelt men to determine if they are all related to a common Van Pelt immigrant, or if there were unrelated men who took the surname of Van Pelt, after immigrating to this country.
