About us

The Connacht families now appear to be from the same families possibly within 400 years and are R1a. This leads to an origin in Germanic regions or Norse. P.H Reaney ( Author of British Surnames ) believes the name to originate from the Norse settlers in Sheffield.

The latest result in the project from an Ulster participant is R1b which is no relation to the Connacht Reaneys. This maybe a solid indicator that Scottish/Ulster Reaneys are of no relation to the Republic of Ireland family. We encourage any Reaneys/Raineys from Ulster-Scot heritage to join and also find a history movement of those families also.
