We are pleased to announce that Alfred T. Rayment of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has taken over both the day-to-day running and the organisation and development of the Rayment (and variant surnames) group project. No doubt Alfred is an ideal person to take over this rôle because he is currently the General Manager of Forensic Science and Identification Services (FS & IS) at the National Forensic Laboratory Services in Edmonton Alberta (an integral part of Canada's National Police Service) and already has considerable knowledge of DNA Science. The first of the recently introduced 111 marker Y-DNA tests to be carried out by any member of the Rayment (and variant surnames) group project was ordered.

The number of Kits returned to FamilyTreeDNA by members of the Rayment (and variant surnames) group project has now reached one dozen, each of which is being tested for Y-DNA at the full 67 markers.

Now that we have started we earnestly encourage you to join us in our discoveries. As might have been expected, everyone joining the Rayment group project so far has opted for the Y-DNA 67 marker test which, although more expensive, provides very comprehensive results. As one of the participants said, "It's something that you only do once in your lifetime, so you might as well do it properly!" Incidentally it may be of interest to know that a General Fund has now been established to accept donations in any currency via credit card. This is held by the testing company and used to help sponsor test kits for those key males who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of participation in the project. To make a donation please click "About This Group" near the top left-hand side of this page, go to "Background" and then "General Fund". If you decide to do this, please ensure that you specify "Rayment Project General Fund" in the appropriate box when you fill out the form.
