About us

The objective of this project is to identify individuals who share a common male ancestor with the Rayburn* surname or any of it's variations and separate the various blood related Rayburns into distinct Family Groups.
With the use of documented family trees and good paper trails, we hope to expand our genealogical research beyond what we currently know. Ultimately, by sharing results and research we believe we might better focus our future research efforts. Due to the loss of paper records, there are family ties that have been lost in history; and with this technology some of these can be reestablished.
We also propose to study the migrations of the early Rayburns as they left Britain for Ireland and eventually Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
We will commonly use the spelling of Rayburn although the spelling has been inconsistent through the families.

*There are more than 31 variations of the Rayburn name. Spelling can change generation to generation and even within a generation without explanation. The spelling of the surname cannot be considered in connection with family differentiation.
The one exception may be the Ryburn family of Washington County, Virginia. They seem to have maintained the surname spelling better than most.
