The Pontius Family DNA project is designed to bring together members of the families bearing the surnames of Pontious, Pontius, and Punches and others with both known and unknown variations of the same surnames. Currently known and used variations are: Poncey, Poncy, Pontzious, Pontzius and Pountious. As many as 80 other variations have been used historically.

The families have been in North America since about 1700. We seek to identify family members; determine areas for further research; prove or disprove current theories about the family lines; validate existing family lines and research and to try to fill in the blanks where ancestors are missing from our lineage charts.
