About us

20 January 2014: This coming week we will be updating our Y-DNA result charts moving resent test into the specific family line groupings.  The Neff Family Historical Society has been active with Neff lines at Find-a-Grave and have been adding line and ID numbers of family members.  http://www.findagrave.com

September 2013: DNA testing by a Neff from Nova Scotia, descending from the Neffs found in Simcoe Co. Ontario, Canada north of Toronto, proved this family belongs to our [T] line and not the [A1] line found in the Niagara area of southern Ontario.

12 October 2011:  We now have 58 DNA tests as part of our project.  There are several more family members with our surname who have not transferred to our project page.  These individuals have been contacted.

19 January 2009: The 2009 Family History Conference sponsored by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and the Lancaster County Historical Society will be held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, on Saturday, April 25th. A presentation on DNA and family migrations will be presented by J. Ross Baughman. Ross is the leader of the Baughman \ Bachmann DNA project, a family whose roots are identical to our Swiss Naef origins.

15 January 2009: During the last quarter of 2008 we had 6 new Neff members join our Y-DNA37 project. These some of the results have been posted and others will begin to be posted during the next several weeks.

1 October 2008: The question is regularly asked as to which test should I select? The Y-DNA12: 12 marker test should only be used if you have no base for knowing your family ancestor's origins. This test will only give you a clue to the ethnic group you belong to. For the purposes of our project, the Y-DNA37: 37 marker test is more than adequate. A more expensive and detailed test, such as the Y-DNA67: 67 marker test should be used only if you are seeking to proved 2nd, 3rd, or 4th cousins or siblings, for example, are from the same family. This test has no add value to our project. A 37 marker test can be upgraded to a 67 marker test by Family Tree DNA without the need for an additional test kit. Contact FTDNA for more information.

30 September 2008: We welcomed three new members to our project in September. Two trace their families to the [G] line descending from Detrict "Teter" NAVE of Carter Co., TN and one from our [W] line descending from Simon NEEF (b. 1610-d.bef.1696) Germany, Brötzingen (Pforzheim). We look forward to their 37 marker Y-chromosome results.

19 August 2008: Several interested Neff males have ask if they could be tested using the DNA Project sponsored by ANCESTRY.COM and have their results transferred to our project. We have NO way at this time to convert and/or correlate Y-chromosome results provided Ancestry which would have any accurate meaning to our reported results as determined by Family Tree DNA,Inc. and their testing protocol.

10 August 2008: We currently have 32 Y-chromosome DNA test returned to us and 10 addition tests are pending.

24 September 2007: We have completed 23 Y-chromosome 37 marker tests as part of the Base Line DNA project. Our first test of a member of the Swiss Naef clan from Zürich was also posted. Denoted as CH1, this test is from a donor descending from a son of Adam Näf Sr. [1485-1531]. The 12 marker results of this test matches a number of our early Neff line in America. Members in the study can log in using their kit number and password and go to "Y-DNA Results." You will begin to see comparative results based on FTDNA's computer models. These results do not completely agree with the Neff Family Historical Society's genealogical records. Certain mutations may accounts for the differences.

30 August 2007: We have completed 21 Y-chromosome 37 marker tests as part of the Base Line DNA project. There are three additional tests in progress and 5 Y-chromosome 37 marker tests which have been submitted by donors directly to FTDNA for comparative purposes. Further updates will be posted shortly.

September 2006: We received a Y-DNA37 test from a descendant of the NÄFs from Hausen am Albis in Zürich, Switzerland, parents of Adam Näf.  The results proved most of our early Neff immigrants to America in the 1700's descend from this family.

31 July 2006: There are 18 members in the project. Results for 4 complete tests are still pending; several partial results are also pending.
