Pertaining to New Mexico:
The project goals are to clarify the problems that a gap in the paper trial has left the Maldonado history in New Mexico. Such as:
1) Do all the Maldonado's from New Mexico descend from a single progenitor?
2) A documented surname change took place in 1760 of a Jose Montano, who changed his surname to Maldonado - how many present day Maldonado's does this affect.
3) Where there are gaps in the paper trial, hopefully, sibling relationships can be made that can enable one to follow the records of a sibling that are more clear.
We are still seeking more people with the surname Maldonado to join this project and help us learn more about the mark that this surname left in the New World. This project will put an emphasis with New Mexico, but also those Maldonado's from Mexico and Puerto Rico are encouraged to join. It will be interesting to see if any of these Maldonado's from these countries, which both have a high concentration of the surname Maldonado, are connected.
