About us

Because of our early success, a combination of genealogical research and DNA testing, it became clear that we might be able to benefit others in their Lee family research. We find that DNA testing is a terrific aid in helping to tie together lose ends.

Our goal is to identify and include as many Lee lines of European descent as possible to give participants a chance to prove or disprove relations to any of the 70 or more known Lee lines.

Our research group is the Henry Lee Society. We are also part of various Societies in the UK and the Guild of One Name Studies.

Within the Project, we identify kinship groups called Subgroups. Subgroups are made of true genetic cousins.

What we ask for in return for this effort is two things:

1)      that you are willing to share your contact information with your cousins and work together to further your understanding of your Lee line and

2)      that you provide the Project and the Henry Lee Society your proven bare-bones paternal line and grant permission to share your contact information with your genetic cousins.

We continue to look for researchers that are willing to take a lead with their specific family Subgroups and to help with the efforts to tie into the British Isles; and further add Lee members from around the globe to check the spread of Lee lines throughout!

We do not claim to have all the answers. In fact, only through project growth("the more the merrier" theme) can anything of value be learned. For those interested, we whole heartily invite you to join with us and add your DNA to the pot...there are numerous Lee lines, many different families dating back to earliest of times and a few will even find they are not even truly related to the old Lee families. Remember, many names were taken rather randomly when second names were added in the 'not-so-distant past! The name "LEE"refers to "the meadows"..."of or from the meadows"...the word came from Teutonic expression-traced to a time when English was forming from Old Saxon German.
