About us

This new project is focused on studying the DNA Y-chromosome profiles using the YDNA test of males bearing the German surname of Koch (aka Koke in the USA - the German name means Cook in English) and/or those males with a Soundex equivalent surname. Many of these Koch families were early settlers of the American colonies, especially in Pennsylvania. Others came with later migrations from Germany to the growing USA. While only males have a Y-Chromosome, which is the key required DNA test for this project, females can join this project by sponsoring and being the point of contact for a related male Koch. Males who do the required YDNA profile test are also encouraged to do the Family Finder atDNA test to supplement the information learned from the YDNA test. This project is focused on the Germanic surname Koch or Koke family groups in the USA and Germany to determine if any of them share a common male ancestor in Germany in the last 400-600 years, and if possible to find their respective home villages or regions in Germany. Individuals finding a common shared ancestry via a YDNA match can there share and compare their traditional genealogy research to further their knowledge of their family trees.
