About us

(1) To identify interrelationships within and among the branches of our family trees. (2) To research through Y-DNA testing those ancestral connections worldwide among KNARR-KNERR-KNORR and related variant surnames. We have special interest in those having ancestral roots in Germany-France-Switzerland. We welcome participants from different branches and different countries. (3) To determine if unclassified males with these surnames might link to documented genealogies. (4) To determine if those males having an unrelated surname might also be related to our genealogies. (5) To provide continuing clues in our genealogy research of these families. We fully expect that the results of our testing will sometimes support suppositions or, conversely, help in disproving certain understandings and provide an improved understanding of our relationships. We also anticipate that some of our results may surprise us, or raise more questions that will require further research. For example, I have always wanted to find out whether we had a Nordic-Viking genetic connection. Since "knarr" was name of Viking ship, some others assumed there might be some connection to our lineage. Well, our initial results poorly conform to the Nordic Genetic Haplotype with only 3/12 match.[see www.familytreedna.com/faq2.html for Nordic alleles] For the twelve allele values reported, there exists a total of thirteen step distance or variance across the twelve-marker spectrum. I urge others to now join this pioneering project so that we can start applying DNA science to our genealogical efforts.
