The goal of this geographic mtDNA project is to determine the mtDNA haplogroups and haplotype signatures of maternal lines with recent ancestral history in Ashkenazi regions of Europe but with an oral history of earlier Sephardi roots. We would like to be able to compare them with those of known Sephardic Jews and converso descendants.

In order to be able to find a common female ancestor who lived in medieval Spain, it is necessary for all project members to upgrade to the Full Genomic Sequence (FGS) if they haven't already done so.
