Only Hunsicker males (or males with soundex equivalent surnames) can join this project or a female sponsoring said male. Genetic Genealogy surname project to determine the Y-DNA chromosome markers for various unlinked Hunsicker/Hunsecker family groups and similar sounding (in English) family surname groups in the USA, and to determine if any of them have a theoretical common male ancestor in Europe in the last 300-500 years. These Swiss and/or German family names first arrived in America in the early 1700s. The project will also look for any DNA evidence which could confirm the family oral history linking this family to the Huns, i.e., that the origins are of the surname are from Hunseck which is an area where allegedly the Hun army encamped and over wintered circa 452 a.d. during their invasion of Western Europe.
