It seems likely that historically there were at least three distinct and unrelated groupings of the name Follis and its variants. These groups are indicated by the colors on the chart. The Scots/Irish and the Italian groups appear certain while the Anglo-Norman group(s) is more problematical and remains to be verified by further testing.
