Wonder about your Faust/Foust line? We are arranging for DNA Test designed to reconstruct the SC Faust Families. It's a Y-chromosome DNA test limited to male Faust/Foust descendants from an unbroken line of male Faust/Fousts. The test is targeted specifically at any Faust who has or thinks he or she has a line of Fausts that originated in South Carolina. You must be a male Faust/Foust or have a male Faust relative that could take the test as your representative. Three specific goals of this project are:
1. Sort out the various lines of the SC Faust Family
2. Determine European roots of the Faust/Foust line
3. Determine genealogy of the PA Foust/Faust lines and determine their relationship with SC Faust lines.
We recommend using the FamilyTreeDNA organization for testing. It is simple to participate and is done at home. You order the test over the Internet, and receive it by mail. The test is simple, using a toothbrush-like device to scrape the inside of the cheek, put the two samples in a vial provided and return them to the company in a mailer also provided by them.
As part of the Faust/Foust Project, the cost of the 12 marker DNA Test will be at a discounted price, down from $149 to $99. For optimum test results, however, we suggest that you consider the 25 or 37 marker tests rather than 12 because of the greater accuracy provided. In some cases, 12 markers shows a match but when 25 or 37 markers are used, the match falls apart.
We have been getting a good baseline of DNA from Faust/Fousts with "documented" lineage from which Faust/Fousts of "undocumented" lineage can seek DNA match. Results, identified only by kit number to protect privacy, will be posted on the internet for perusal. If you've hit a stonewall in your Faust/Foust research, DNA test might well be the answer in jump-starting your Faust/Foust research. Your DNA may well match DNA from another Faust/Foust who has a documented lineage.
