About us

The Fancher Family in the USA consists of those using the spellings of Fancher, Fansher, Fanshier, and Fanchier. Their lineage can be traced to William Fancy/Fanshaw first found in the New Haven Colony in 1643. There are many USA families by these names that cannot trace their lineage to this man, but undoubtedly, they are a part of his descendants. Results of DNA testing indicate this family is from Western Europe (Haplogroup R1b-M269). This website contains information about members of the family and associated data including family relationships and DNA test results. At this time in 2018, the father of William Fancy/Fanshaw is UNKNOWN. There is no document or evidence proving a link to the father of William Fancy/Fanshaw by any research including those shown on the Internet and family genealogies, such as Lyonell Fanshawe of Fanshaw Gate and William Fancy of England. Neither does Patrick A. Fancher in his two books that erroneously state that William Ramshaw of the Virginia Colony was mistakenly misspelled in the records and really was William Fanshawe, son of Robert Fanshawe of Fanshawe Gate. Westward with the Sun by Burr Edwin Fancher doesn’t show a link either. Initial inconclusive DNA testing indicates that the Fancher DNA is different from Fanshawe DNA.
