Eight Bumpus descendants have been tested to determine if four designated lines of Bumpus families descended from a common ancestor. Two from each line were tested:
2 descendants of Eduoad Bumpus of Massachusetts
2 descendants of Robert Bumpus of North Carolina
2 descendants of William Bumpus of Hanover Co. VA
2 descendants of William Bumpus of Bedford and
Campbell Counties VA and later Wilson County TN

All six descendants of the first 3 groups above matched 12/12. In the fourth group the two descendants of William of TN matched each other 12/12 but did not match the other groups.

Concluding that, the first three groups could be descendants of Eduoad Bumpus of MA, or else a common ancestor of Eduoad. The fourth group may descend from the early Edward and Robert Bumpus who came into Virginia by 1670.
