About us

Project goals.
To obtain Y-DNA signatures from Nason males, to tabulate and analyse the results, to identify related groups and to confirm and expand known genealogies.

Contributor requirements.
This is a Y-DNA study and, therefore, contributors MUST BE THE DIRECT MALE DESCENDANTS OF NASONs and, therefore, will bear the surname Nason or a variant.

Other surnames, where there is evidence to suggest a genetic connection with a male Nason, will be considered. Please contact the Administrator to discuss.

The application to join should be in the name of the sample contributor. Mitochondrial (female) DNA is not relevant to the study.

There is little use in close relatives, say both uncle and nephew, in submitting samples, since the duplicate result will not add anything to the study. Of course, if there is some doubt that a blood relationship actually exists, a DNA test could resolve the doubt.

The cost of a DNA analysis (see FamilyTreeDNA web pages) will, of course, be borne by the contributor himself. Direct female Nason descendants have a vital role in encouraging male blood relatives to participate – and, perhaps, in sharing the cost?

Philanthropic Nasons could contribute to a fund that could assist those less able to afford the cost. See link.

A 37 marker analysis is regarded as the minimum standard for participation in this group, however, a 25 marker test will be accepted for inclusion and may be upgraded later to 37 markers. This will eliminate spurious matches at lower resolutions.

A credible written genealogy should exist.

DYS values and a Gedcom are to be uploaded to the Y-Search database. The Gedcom should display the male line with places and dates of baptism/birth, of burial/death, and the spouse’s name/s. Details of collateral/distaff lines are not useful to the study.

Where of relevance to the aims of the project, genealogical data and general enquiries should be posted to the Website forum, for the benefit of all members.
