The only Y DNA analysed at this stage gives us a clue on the ancestry of at least one branch of the family.

The tested YDNA belongs to Haplogroup I1a3a which is positive for SNP Z63 and L1237. Males who have tested positive for Z63 are spread across northern Europe,the British Isles and southern Europe as far as Lebanon.The origin of the Haplogroup and the spread is consistent with historical events such as the raiding of the Vikings to the East from the Nordic lands and the later raids to the British Isles and Normandy.The spread in Southern Italy, the Balkans and through to Lebanon is consistent with the historical conquests and Crusades that Normans participated in.
