Maybury Family DNA Project
Early in the project, it became clear that most Mayburys DO DESCEND FROM A COMMON ANCESTOR. We have identified that common ancestor as John Maybury who lived in Sussex, England when he was first married in 1565.
A second result is the discovery that descendants of Frederick Mayberry of Bedford County, Virginia have a unique DNA signature which easily distinguishes them from the English Maybury family. However, this does not mean that Frederick Mayberry was not related to the English Mayburys. We are still looking at the possibility that the "German tradition", which has come down to many of his descendants, may have come from the German community near Philadelphia where Frederick probably lived before moving to Virginia.
