N.B. the information on this page has been supplied by participants of this project and has not been verified by FTDNA. Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, England Lineage

This GREENHILL family appeared in Abbots Langley c. 1600 and lived in the manor of Hyde. They include the infamous Elizabeth GREENHILL who is reputed to have had 39 children, all separate births save one. The 39th was Thomas GREENHILL, surgeon and author of "Necrocediea" or "The Art of Embalming" of 1705. Thomas was granted a difference to his father, William's (Councillor of Law and Secretary to General Monk), coat of arms in 1698 which bore 39 mullets to signify that he was the 39th child. The GREENHILLs of Craignathro, Angus, Scotland also bore these arms in the 1700s so might be linked. This line is haplogroup I1. Some other possible related families include the Harrow, St. Albans and Bedford GREENHILLs.
