About us
Group for those whose ancestors lived in Wyszatyce, Przemysl, Poland and nearby villages including Walawa, Bolestraszyce and Torki. Wyszatyce had a population of approximately 1,700 around 1900 and there is evidence that nearly 300 people emmigrated from Wyszatyce to the US or Canada between 1900 and 1914 and some who emigrated much later. The early emigrants settled primarily in Chicago IL, Yorkville OH, Perth Amboy NJ, and in area around Derwent AB, Brightstone, MB, and in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Wyszatyce was located just outside the perimeter of the fortress of Przemysl on the eastern front of WWI and was destroyed by the Austro-Hungarian army in September 1914 at the outset of teh war. All of the inhabitants of the village were deported to a refugee camp in Chocen, in what is now the Czech Republic. Many of the villagers returned to Wyszatyce in 1916 and 1917 and rebuilt the village and others spread out across Europe.
