The surname Würfel is spread relatively evenly throughout the whole of Germany, some occurances in Austria, and very few in Switzerland. This group sets out to bring the different bearers of the last name together and explore possible common connections. The name Würfel translates to cube or dice. The origin of the name likely is connected to the later refering to a person very fond of playing dice or making dice to play with. Thus the bearers of this last name might not have one single ancestor, but could be united by their forebearers attachement to dice games. 1. Line (Martin Würfel, b. 1754 near Srem, Poland, d. 1832 near Radomsko) Tracing its roots back to the area around today's Poznan in the 18th century with several family members moving towards the Radomsko area, some went further to Volhynia in today's Ukraine and from there moved back to Germany or emigrated to Canada and the US. 2. Line (Uli Werffeli, b. ca. 1557 in Weiningen, Aargau, Switzerland , d. 1617 in Weiningen) Tracing its roots back to the Zürich area in the 16th century with family members moving towards the Kurpfalz (Palatinate) area in today's Germany and from there towards the US and Poland
