About us
The project seeks to:
Gather samples from each household/nuclear family of Whelton (and other surnames that represent anglicizations of Ó hUilín / Ó hUallacháin) identified in Griffith’s Valuation of Ireland (1852), and also those recorded in the early censuses of Britain, America, and elsewhere, in order to establish the distance of relatedness among the various branches of the family, and thereby the estimated floruit of their most recent common ancestor.
Trace the migration of individual branches of the family throughout county Cork, elsewhere in Ireland, and also those who emigrated overseas.
Identify the family’s wider – tribal – affiliation
