About us

The name Warzecha is of polish origin and means literally " wooden spoon".

Why, where and when someone was for the first time designated in this way?

source:

"Slownik staropolskich nazw osobowych (A dictionary of Old Polish personal surnames)"

1414: Clemens Warzecha...  de Proszouicze     (today Proszowice near Krakow)
1440: Jan Warzecha de Lubocza                 (now Lubocza in Krakow)
1500 Jacob Warzecha  ... Nova Sandecz          (Nowy Sacz)

The first appearance of Warzecha throughout the 15th century in the voivodeship Krakow.

The question why someone was called "Warzecha" is demanding. It gives primarily the impression of a nickname. And the reason for this nickname could be a similar sounding territorial surname (e.g Warzycki, i.e. from Warzyce), a correspondent ocupational name (e.g. spoonmaker) or a similar sounding patronymic name (Warszeka i.e. of Warszek).

Maybe however the name arose indeed multiple times for various reasons.
