About us
The FTDNA Waddell project is a SURNAME-based project, a project of a collection of surnames, not a specific YDNA project. Since this project is surname-based, the project goals need to be multi-pronged to serve all project members.
Currently, the project has over 200 members representing over 15 countries and four main YDNA haplogroups: "E", "I", "J", and "R". These disparate YDNA haplogroups inform us that these surnames and different spellings are, in some cases, completely unrelated not only in a genetic sense but also geographically and linguistically.
This project is still in its infancy due to the lack of YDNA testing, especially BigY testing. Without more YDNA testing, this project will remain an untapped resource. All male project members are HIGHLY encouraged to take the YDNA test, then the BigY test. If you are interested in your family genealogy, this is the next step needed if YOU want to make personal progress in your family genealogy.
Take the next STEP to discover your family line > BigY
GOAL #1
Get more project members and others to take the YDNA test. Without more YDNA testing, this project can never move forward. Getting more members to take the YDNA test should be the primary goal. Recruitment, encouragement, and funding are critical to our genealogy success.
GOAL #2
Get more project members and others to take the YDNA BigY test. Without BigY testing, this project will be unable to group members within "surname genealogy" times (basically, within the last 500 years or so). "Real" genealogy can only be done with the BigY test.
GOAL #3
Figure out which members are in each of the four main haplogroups: "E", "I", "J", and "R" that is already represented in the project. This grouping will require each male to take at least the y37 YDNA test. The prerequisite for this goal is goal #1.
GOAL #4
Discover the "umbrella" YDNA haplogroup in each of the four main YDNA haplogroups representing that particular lineage. The prerequisite for this goal is goal #2.
