About us

The Vienneau DNA Project seeks to determine the relationship between the various early Vienneau/Veno/Vienno dit Michaud/Michaud/Vianot families, and to characterize their Y-chromosome profiles. The Vienneau family first showed up in Quebec city about 1749-50. Surnames variants which are believed to have been used by descendants include Veno, Vienno dit Michaud, Vienno and Michaud. Research has shown that this family came from southeastern France (Vaucluse, Drome and Ardeche) where their surname was spelled Vianot in records. The Y-DNA Vienneau Project would encourage people with these surnames to be tested to confirm their common ancestry.
