About us

  • Autosomal DNA testing CONFIRMED the genealogical relationship between Clem Rand and Calhoun Rand's descendants (female and male). Y-DNA STR markers (111) and high throughput DNA sequencing (Big-Y 500/700) CONFIRMED that Clem Rand and Calhoun Rand's direct male descendants are not only Y-DNA matches but also belong to the exact Y-DNA haplogroup E-FGC35974, formed about 375 years before the present (ca. 1650 CE/modern age/genealogical times). These results reveal that our "deep ancestry" and autosomal inheritance are anchored within genealogical times, making Clem Rand and Calhoun Rand close paternal kin as proposed (hypothesized as brothers).

    • Y-DNA STR markers (111) & Big Y-500/700 testing identified three close direct-line Y-branches from Mississippi (Robinson/Wicks) - Y-DNA haplogroup E-Y37640. Our common paternal ancestor lived around 375 years before the present (ca. 1650 CE/modern age/genealogical times).

      • Y-DNA STR markers (67) & Big Y-700 testing identified one distant direct-line Y-branch from Georgia > England (Bearden) - Y-DNA haplogroup  FGC35976. Our common paternal ancestor lived ca. 900 years before the present (ca. 1125 CE/middle ages/recent historical times).

        • Y-DNA STR markers (380) & shared SNPs (44) genetically link project members with a Fulani father and son from The Gambia, West Africa (TMRCA is between 870 CE and 1135 CE/middle ages/recent historical times) and a more distant Mende (Mande) man from Sierra Leone (TMRCA ca 1675 BCE/ancient times). Their Y-DNA haplogroups are E-FT399764 and E-Y14890, respectively. The Fulani samples are three steps upstream from E-Y37640 & E-FGC35974, and the Mende (Mande) sample is four steps upstream. These data suggest that our closest ethnic group and geographic origin were derived from a Fulani and Mande cluster from the greater Senegambian region.
