The Tasmanian Geographic group project seeks to discover and positively link via genetic DNA markers the many common surnames and direct genetic relationships in Tasmania. Project members are required to demonstrate a link with the 'gene pool' of the Australian state and preferably be able to document such a link, though residence is not required.

However, the DNA test results of individual members should be presented through Family Tree DNA (FTDNA).
