Many years of traditional family history research and suspected relationships have brought us to this point where we will attempt to prove some of our beliefs with modern tools.

This is a new path for us, so we will all learn about these things together.

We encourage males with surnames in the TAMMANY "family" to join in this project and help untangle some of our roots. We have all come across the many possible spellings of the surname as we looked for our own lines.

Females, of course may also participate, but they will have to enlist a male relative in the direct line to submit the Y-DNA sample.

We also encourage Females and Males to test the mitochondrial DNA, even though it does not connect to the Surname study because names changed with each marriage. The mt-dna is inherited by children of both sexes, but is only passed on to the next generation by the females.

We will include mtdna results on our project page if desired.
