Johan Frederick Gottleib Striegler was the founder of theStriegler family in Texas. He was bornin Denmark, December 5, 1813. In 1855,Johan and his wife, Jensine Lang, their nine children and three others left Svendborg,Denmark for Texas. They landed atIndianola on the Gulf coast and traveled inland to the Fredericksburg area.Twenty-five years later, Johan’s younger brother, Theodore, also came to Texasform Denmark with his family.
It is recorded that the family name was originally spelled“Strigler” and that the family came from Norway to Germany where the name waschanged at the request of the Kaiser. The family later moved to Denmark.
Through DNA testing of the direct male line from JohanStriegler, the deep ancestry can beguesstimated thousands of years.
Men who have the Striegler surname are requested to order a12-marker or greater y-DNA STR test from FTDNA.
