About us

The results from the first 12 markers for two of our members have been posted and can be viewed under "Y-DNA  Results" choosing the "Classic" view. One member is in Haplogroup J2 and the other is in Haplogroup R1a1a. TheJ2 Haplogroup is generally considered to have begun about 20,000 years ago aspeople migrated to the “fertile crescent” of the Mediterranean, which includesItaly, Turkey, Iran and other parts of the Middle East. The R1a1aHaplogroup is associated with people who migrated to Eurasia and is commonlyfound in South Asia, Southern Siberia, Central Europe and Scandinavia. The third member's Haplogroup is H1a as determined by a different genealogical testing company, but it is not posted to this website. He has no matches within the Family Tree DNA database. The H and L Haplogroups are most common to South Asia, including India.

So we have three members at present, representing three different Haplogroups, which means that their ancient ancestors came to Sri Lanka by entirely different routes. The three members are not genetically related to each other. As the Sri Lanka DNA Project gains new members, we should begin to see a pattern develop and hopefully discover some previously unknown relationships among the members.
