About us

Our group works towards determinining the Y-DNA Haplogroup of Syeds in South Asia, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. We hope to identify specific mutations and subclades which belong to the forefathers of the most Sadaat families (Muris A'la), including prominent ancestors such as Shah Wilayat of Amroha, Jalaluddin Surkhposh Bukhari of Uch, and many others. We would like to determine the migration route of the forefathers of these Sadaat families and the subsequent villages they settled in. A Syed/Sayyid is anyone who claims descendant from the Banu Hashem, the tribe of the Prophet Muhammad (saww). Syeds especially descend Fatima al-Zahra (sa), the daughter of Prophet Muhammed (saww), and Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as), the paternal cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammed (saww). Therefore a Syed/Sayyid can be categorized as a Hasani, descendant of Imam Hassan ibn Ali (as) or Hussaini, a descendant of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as), both sons of Fatima al-Zahra (sa) and Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as). Syeds can also be descendants of other sons and grandsons of Hashem, however they are less common. Syeds are found commonly in North India and Pakistan due to claimed migrations from Iran, Iraq, and other countries in the Arabian Peninsula. Our project strives to find the true origin of each of these claiming families using genetic sciences, especially Y-DNA. We greatly appreciate any donations to help keep our project running, and allow us to fund tests for those who can't afford them.
