Somerset County is located in the southwestern portion of Pennsylvania bordering the Maryland panhandle to the south. It is on the spine of the Appalachian Mountains, giving it abundant natural resources that attracted a wide range of ethnic groups originating in western and mid-Europe. Somerset Historical Center, affords the region a place to enjoy and study these European descendants and their ancestors. The Center houses the Historical and Genealogical Society’s Library and adding a genetic database provides genealogists and researchers sparkling opportunities of study. *** Administrators of Somerset_County_PA Project will assist new members in having their 12 Marker Y-DNA test done by Family Tree DNA. Having our project Administrators assist in obtaining the 12 Marker Y-DNA test keeps the hassle at a minimum. Simple swabbing of saliva from the mouth is the easy process. By joining Somerset County PA Project in this manner, residents not knowing their roots will stir their imaginations and have fun doing so.
