This site is devoted to identifying and tracking the actual and implied descendants of William Smoot, b. 1596, who moved to America around the 1630's. The primary objective of this project is to identify the DNA markers for the Smoot surname. The secondary objective is to determine the origins of the original William Smute (i.e., English, Dutch, Scandinavian, etc.). And, the third objective is to help other Smoot researchers who have not been able to identify their direct ancestry using traditional genealogical resources (i.e., brick walls).
