About us

Skiles/Skyles surname group hopes to identify a distinctive family line that will lead back to Thomas Shiel, the immigrant, who lived in 17th century Somerset County Maryland.

This study may help answer these questions:

Are there different clans within the Skiles surname descending from unique male ancestors.

How are your Skiles ancestors related to other families with the Skiles surname?

How are the different Skiles clans related?

Which Skiles researchers should be collaborating because they share a common ancestor?

An analysis of the mutations in the Y-chromosome can also be used to estimate the "Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA)" in terms of number of generations since the separation occurred.

If your Skiles research has hit a “stone wall”, DNA analysis could be the break through you have been looking for, to push your Skiles genealogy research back generations, by finding connections to other Skiles family Lines.

Please consider submission of Y-DNa samples for 37 markers, but 12 marker Geneographic submissions are welcome.
