About us
The earliest stages of this Project have brought surprises. The first two men to be tested showed no relationship to each other, but even more surprising, no exact matches to anyone else who has been tested!
The volunteer with the John Shuman 1764 ancestor did not even have any near hits.
A second descendant of John, through a different son, has now completed testing and matches perfectly with the first volunteer. A descendant of John's brother Henry has results reported to 25 markers, and is also an exact match. We are very interested in inviting anyone who is a descendant from John Shuman's brother Philip to be tested, so that we can compare those results with what we now have.
Perhaps even more exciting, we have results from a descendant of a Philip Shuman who settled in PA about 1755, with a match to the John Shuman line. A difference of 3 is noted, but for the time span involved it is considered normal. At this point, we do not know how or where the two lines join.
One descendant from the line of Martin Shuman of GA has been tested. The results indicate he is not closely related at all to the John-Henry-Philip line, even though some researchers have thought there was a connection. It would be good for another descendant of the Martin line to volunteer for testing, to confirm that the results of the first test are accurate for the Martin line.
There are many other lines that have been identified through traditional means which have not been tested. We invite everyone who has an interest in this project to volunteer -- either by submitting a sample for testing, or by making a contribution to the fund so that we can arrange for additional testing in special circumstances.
