This Scobey family settled in Orange Co., North Carolina sometime between 1750-1770. After the death of Matthew Scobey, Sr., some of the family moved to Tennessee and settled in the Sumner Co. and Wilson Co. area where they stayed for several generations. One Scobey branch moved to Dyer Co., Tennessee.
