The name is Swedish and means "field of runes". The name can also be found in some old German books.
There are at least two different Runfeldt families in Sweden but they are not believed to be related. There are more families with the name Runfelt (without the "d").
There is a Runfeldt branch in the US who are descendants of Anders Filip Runfeldt, who emigrated from Sweden. His father was Klas Emil Svensson (1859-1933) who changed his name to Runfeldt. He was born in Runeryd, Nässjö, Sweden.
There is another spelling variant, Runnfeldt, in the US. It comes from Carl Johan, born 1845 in Södra Råda, Sweden. His birth name was Carl Johan Olofsson Kärfält but in the military he got the name Runfelt, also spelled Runnfält.
